On Saturday, 24th, october, 2926, the Green Realty Africa Internship Programme (GRAIP) ended with a graduation.

Twenty-nine people applied, thirteen were selected, ten completed the programme and graduated. That number matters because GRAIP was not a programme you could coast through, and these ten earned their certificates.

Six months is a long time to show up consistently.

What GRAIP was built to do

Green Realty Africa exists to tell the story of Nigerian and African real estate, climate resilience and sustainable cities. GRAIP was designed to prepare the next generation of people who will tell and shape that story.

It was a structured, selective programme. After about a month of onboarding and training, the interns worked across three departments:

  • Blog Article Writing: researching and writing for the Green Realty Africa blog.
  • Media: creating visual and digital content for GRA and its events.
  • Grant and Partnerships: exploring funding opportunities and building the relationships that keep initiatives like this going.

What the interns delivered

Two articles every week. Through the main working months, the interns wrote and published two articles a week on real estate, climate resilience and sustainable development. That is consistent output on topics that are not easy to write about well.

Two summits. The interns worked with us across two Green Realty Africa Sustainability Summits, including GRASS 2.0, which brought together policymakers and sustainability advocates.

A campaign built by the interns. They created the campaign, made content and published it.

Graduation day: hybrid, and still a proper ceremony

After a two-week break at the end of the programme, we came back together to close it properly.

The graduation was hybrid. Four graduates joined in person, and six joined online. Distance did not change the standard. Certificates were presented to all ten graduates, and awards recognised outstanding contributions across the programme.

It also suited the programme. GRAIP was largely delivered through screens, drafts and deadlines, so it made sense for the graduation to include everyone, wherever they were.

What this programme proved

Young Nigerians are ready to work on the issues that will define their cities. When you give them structure, real responsibility and a high bar, they deliver.

That is the case for programmes like GRAIP. The pipeline of climate and real estate talent we need will not appear on its own, It has to be built, with consistent mentoring and real work.

Congratulations, and thank you

To our ten graduates: congratulations. You wrote, created, organised and learned, and you did it consistently. We are proud of you.

To the team members who trained, guided and reviewed their work, thank you. A programme is only as strong as the people who invest in it.

To everyone who supported GRAIP, thank you for believing in it. To all 13 interns who took part, thank you for the time and effort you gave.

GRAIP is complete. The people it produced are only getting started.
